Weather, your forecast, radar and alerts in one place
On this page
Weather shows the forecast for any U.S. ZIP code or city and for cities around the world: conditions now, the next hours, ten days ahead, a live radar map, severe weather alerts, hurricanes and the weather news. You can keep a home place so that Weather opens on yours.
Weather is available on 4Search and 4Conservative.
#Start with a place
- Select Weather in the tab row at the top of any page.
- Type a ZIP code or a city in the search box, for example

- Select Set as home if you want Weather to open on this place next time.
#The Weather overview
The overview is the front page of Weather. It opens with your home place if you set one. If not, it shows a Get your forecast box.
The top of the Weather overview. The search box, with its Use my location button, is on every Weather page.
- 1Search for a place
- 2Use my location
- 3The Weather sections
- 4Where your own forecast appears
Below that, in the main column, you find a radar box, a table of the major U.S. cities and the latest weather news. The right-hand column has Severe weather now, Tropics when a storm is active, and a list of cities around the world. If you follow places, a My places box appears too.
Severe weather now lists the kinds of alert in effect and how many of each, with the states that have the most. Tropics lists any active storms.
- 1Kinds of alert in effect, with how many
- 2States with the most alerts
- 3Active tropical storms
On the overview, the number beside Alerts in the row of Weather pages is how many alerts are in effect across the country right now.

#Where the information comes from
In the United States, forecasts, current conditions and alerts come from the National Weather Service (NOAA). Radar is NOAA's, and satellite pictures come from NASA and NOAA. Air quality comes from AirNow, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's service with its partners. Hurricane information comes from the National Hurricane Center. Normals and records come from NOAA's regional climate centers. Outside the United States, forecasts come from MET Norway, and current conditions from airport reports. Weather news comes from the 4Search news index and shows what the press published.
Weather copies this information on a schedule, so it can lag the sources. Every page has a notice at the bottom that says so, and most pieces of data say how old they are. Where the weather comes from and how fresh it is explains more.
#Common questions
Do I need an account or to sign in?
No. You can use every Weather page without signing in. A home place and the places you follow are kept in your browser. See Set a home place.
Does Weather work outside the United States?
Yes, for cities around the world. Places outside the U.S. have a Today page, an Hourly page, a 10-Day page and a Radar page that shows satellite imagery. The Monthly and Alerts tabs and the air quality box are for U.S. places.
Does it show my location automatically?
Not unless you ask. You can select Use my location, and your browser asks permission first. Without a home place, the overview may show weather near the approximate location your connection suggests, and says so. See Use your location.
Why is a forecast older than I expected?
Each page shows when its data was last updated, for example "National Weather Service forecast updated 10 hrs ago". The National Weather Service issues its forecasts on its own schedule.
